Acceptable Use Policy

Cherami is designed to enable secure, private communication. This policy ensures our service remains safe, legal, and available for all legitimate users.

Prohibited Uses

You may not use Cherami to:

1. Illegal Activities

  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations
  • Facilitate illegal transactions or activities
  • Share content that violates intellectual property rights
  • Distribute malware, viruses, or malicious code

2. Harmful Content

  • Harassment, threats, or intimidation
  • Content that exploits or harms minors
  • Promotion of violence or self-harm
  • Hate speech or discrimination

3. System Abuse

  • Attempting to breach our security measures
  • Reverse engineering our encryption or systems
  • Creating excessive load on our servers
  • Using automated systems without permission

4. Deceptive Practices

  • Phishing or social engineering attacks
  • Impersonation of individuals or organizations
  • Spreading false information to cause harm
  • Financial fraud or scams

Acceptable Uses

Cherami is perfect for:

  • Sharing passwords or credentials securely
  • Sending confidential business information
  • Private personal communications
  • Secure file transfers
  • Time-sensitive information sharing
  • Whistleblowing and journalism (within legal bounds)

Enforcement

While we cannot decrypt your messages, we may:

  • Suspend or terminate accounts violating this policy
  • Remove access to specific features
  • Report illegal activities to law enforcement
  • Block IP addresses engaging in abuse

Reporting Violations

If you encounter content or behavior that violates this policy:

  • Report it at our abuse reporting page
  • Include any relevant message IDs or screenshots
  • We investigate all reports within 48 hours

API Usage

Additional rules for API users:

  • Respect rate limits (100 requests per hour)
  • Don't share API keys
  • Implement proper encryption on your end
  • Follow all general acceptable use guidelines

Consequences

Violations may result in:

  • Warning for first minor offense
  • Temporary suspension for repeated violations
  • Permanent ban for serious violations
  • Legal action for criminal activities

Privacy Note

Remember: Due to our zero-knowledge encryption, we cannot monitor message content. This policy relies on user reports and metadata analysis. We built Cherami to protect privacy, not enable harmful activities.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as needed. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
